The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the anniversary.
Tunji-Ojo described Nigeria’s warmth, welcoming spirit, love and abundant human capital as among the country’s greatest strengths.
He also highlighted the richness of Nigeria’s land and said the country remains a prosperous black nation.
The minister stressed the importance of peace and stability to national development, urging Nigerians to emulate the nation’s founding fathers by demonstrating greater love for the country.
He called on citizens to work collectively towards building a Nigeria that future generations would be proud of, saying a new Nigeria is achievable.
“As we celebrate 66 years of our independence, we should always remember that there is hope for our country and our diversity is our strength, and our collective determination remains the foundation upon which a stronger and more prosperous nation will be built,” he said.
Tunji-Ojo wished Nigerians a memorable Independence Day celebration and urged citizens to remain committed to the progress and unity of the country.
